EIQA Diploma in Quality Management
The EIQA Diploma in Quality Management Parts 1 and 2 are run in Munster Technological University (MTU), Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), Technological University Dublin (TUD) and Technological University of the Shannon (TUS).
About the Course
The aim of this programme is to give participants an understanding of general management principles (based on the ISO9000 standards) and of how quality is managed in a manufacturing or service organisation. It will explain the methodology of quality improvement, in particular the various tools and techniques for analysis.
Entry Requirements
Applicants are required to have completed an Introduction to Quality Assurance Course and/or relevant work experience, or an equivalent qualification. An equivalent qualification could be a pass in a Statistical Quality Control subject from a Certificate / Diploma / Degree course from a third level Institute or University. The individual course lecturer will make the decision on the suitability of prior statistical training of an applicant.
Course Content
The Diploma in Quality Management is a two year course.
Part 1 (Year 1) addresses the following:
- Basic concepts and definitions
- Setting up a quality system
- Auditing
- Management theory
- Quality engineering – Problem solving and quality improvement
- Service/product quality
- Management and quality developments
- Documentation control
Part 2 (Year 2) will cover the following topics:
- Introduction to total quality
- Quality management philosophies
- Review of quality standards
- Quality awards
- Leadership
- Human resource development
- Teamwork and co-operation
- Process management
- Measurement and strategic information management
- Building and sustaining total quality organisations
- Critical analysis of developments in total quality
The course is assessed through an annual written examination (at the end of Part 1 and at the end of Part 2) and a project completed during each year. The course is run one evening per week for the academic year.

Course fees are available on the relevant Institute of Technology website. An examination fee is also payable direct to EIQA.
